Ashes to Ashes
The tenement where my great-grandparents sweet shop was, finally bit the dust today.
It says something about Glasgow, that despite having researched my family history quite extensively and found that they were mostly Glaswegian going back 4 generations, very few of their homes and places of business remain. A great-great uncle was an artist with his own studio in Gibson Street - folks who know Gibson Street will know there was a patch of derelict land there for many years: guess where the studio was? My father's family originated in Cowcaddens - all their old homes are now buried under the M8.
As someone said, It's a city where reality is about as reliable as a Salvador Dali watch...
