A visit to York to see the incredible “Water Lillies” by Claude Monet. When viewing there is the opportunity of getting a close up view, which shows just what an incredible piece of art this really is. Wonderful. And the gallery was surprising in that it also exhibits ceramics by Picasso, paintings by Lowry, Nicholson & Nash and the utterly wonderful Yorkshire Tea Celebration exhibition of the life-long work of W A Ismay. This gentleman spent his life researching and collecting British Studio Pottery, housing his collection of 3500 items in his very modest terraced home in Wakefield. People would write (he had no telephone) to ask to see his collection. If they passed the first test they were invited along, quizzed on their knowledge, and if successful, could choose any piece in the collection to enjoy the Yorkshire Tea Ceremony with W A Ismay. See extra.
