Poached Egg Plant
Limnanthes douglasii
Originates from America & native to California & Oregon, it was collected by Scottish explorer David Douglas in the 1820s & now resides in our little garden. What a spectacular journey & a beautiful plant.
Other than what the name & indeed the picture on the packet when I bought in from the garden centre suggested, I really had no idea what a poached egg plant had to offer or whether we could get them to grow. It was actually our love of poached eggs & if dreams really did come true, a plant that sprouted poached eggs, that first attracted me to them!
Now that they have flourished & flowered so prolifically, we're thrilled & think they look so bright & happy. It's not just us who thinks so either, the Royal Horticultural Society has given it it's Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
It was just confirmed that today was the hottest day of the year, topping a whopping 32C in parts. By the hammer of Thor it's hot! Thank the Norse gods that we were allowed non-school uniform at the Office today. It was most welcome.
And the Apprentice reached it's epic conclusion. Lea or Louisa???... Sugar decided. Yes, Lea took it at the final hurdle. I must say I was surprised - I didn't think Sir Alan would go for the far riskier business plan & actually Louisa really seemed to develop & learn through the series & would have made a worthy winner in the end. Nevermind, Lea was very professional & had a coherent & adventurous business plan, & the journey was one hell of laugh in any case. Already yearning for next years battle of w*ts & t*ts! (Apologies for the potty mouth, I don't wish to offend).
Now, what to have for breakfast tomorrow morning...
