Sanderling

After a very dull start the day brighten considerably and by midday the sun was shining brightly.

Saw this sanderling at the water’s edge on today’s walk ,its feathers fairly sparkled in the sun.

On Saturday’s blip I quoted seafarers saying that the sighting of mares’ tails in the sky would result in turbulent winds the next day.  They were completely correct!  These soothsayers not only predicted the wind speed but also the wind direction, it was sooth wind ;-)

Turbulent winds vary in speed but start at approximately 20 knots which converts to 23 mph, which is a fresh to strong breeze.  On Sunday it was a bright and breezy day with winds speeds of 25-30 mph, so definitely turbulent winds.
