Power to the Glens
The electrification of the Highlands, undertaken by the old North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board and driven forward by that Board's chairman, the wartime Secretary of State for Scotland Tom Johnston , has been well publicised including in the book "Power to the Glens" which is worth reading.
The Loch Striven Hydro generating house caught my eye this morning as I drove down the long hill opposite it. The Wikipedia entry about this Hydro scheme, commissioned in 1951, is right when it comments on the "steeply pitched roof and large rectangular windows" which make the turbine house "look almost ecclesiastical, (fitting) in well with other buildings in the locality" and today the still water of the loch almost perfectly reflected not just the building, but the pipe coming down from Loch Tarsan too. .
