Kept its balance
Called in at Te Wai Orea (Western Springs Lake) on my way home today. Pukeko are everywhere; almost enough to challenge feral pigeons and sparrows for being the most numerous.
A Kuihi (Canada goose) entered the water almost in front of me, and I followed around to where a tongue of land sticks out into the lake, and many birds are often seen. A juvenile Kotuku Ngutupapa (Spoonbill) alit only a few metres from me; on the rocks which serve many birds as somewhere to rest.
I did not notice much wind, but the young spoonbill appeared to struggle to keep its balance. Eventually, it flew across to a heavily wooded protrusion into the lake, where the colony rests overnight.
