Distant Alps …..

….. ….. ….. in Dusky Sound, Fiordland New Zealand.
We steamed out of Preservation Inlet late morning, out past Gulches Head, across the mouth of Chalky Inlet and on to Dusky Sound. It seemed that the weather was going to get very rough and wet and that we’d find better shelter in Dusky.

Many birds visited while the crayfish pot was being lifted. There’s a photo of a Mollymawk in Extras; a beautiful albatross.

We visited Pickersgill Harbour, where Capt James Cook spent time taking on fresh water and successfully checking out the transit of Venus.

We had the choice of a tender ride around some of the Dusky Sound, or kayaking. I actually went kayaking, hoping fervently that my wrist would be okay. Amazingly, it seemed to be better for it!

That ‘weather’ did arrived overnight, with lots of lightning and rain, but cleared beautifully the next day.

Back-blipping Day 3.
