G. P. O. String?

       Rtd. Ldg. Fm. "Bullets"  So christened due his speed of Turnout, told me once that it was the cordage of choice by the G P O - SO - If you see a Pipe sticking out of the ground + sight of blue "String" it'll be them.
       Mary pointed it out "t'other day" and I said "If it lies much longer, I'll rescue it."  It did, so I DID. 
       I make it to be approx 22 "Tailor's Yards" long.  Th at's my translation of a Mamism.  She reckoned if you took "it" between finger & thumb Stretched it out, holding the rest of "it" between finger & thumb of other hand, and turned head away from the "travelling" hand, it approximated to a yard; by that criterion it's about 22 yds/mtr long.
       I have yet to see any bit of G P O String spliced.  I see the last handler has taped the end so - I just need an eye splice on other end.
