130 years old…

Today I have been doing some more of my Life Story as I have three sections to catch up on, one per week does not seem much but sometimes I need to research things first. Today I was doing “which teachers and subjects did I like at school”. So I looked through some of my old reports…a definite correlation between the subjects I liked and did well at and the good comments from those teachers! One of my favourite subjects was Art and this certificate is my grandmothers. Although she came from a farming family she was the first to go to college in Bristol in the 1880s. This seems to be just a certificate for drawing but presumably she had other parts to her course as she then went on to be a village school teacher. I have a few books which belonged to her with her name etc in beautiful italic writing. Unfortunately she died before I was two so I have no memories of her. My mother who was the youngest of eight and born when my grandmother was quite old, also enjoyed art at school and I have one drawing book from her schooldays. I did Art A level as well as science subjects, very unusual then.  

After Pilates I had a nice catch-up with friends over coffee and then visited a friend who is moving to Edinburgh soon.
