2024 Thursday — Reminiscing

A photo from this day of celebrating all the way to home as the sun went down.

This final Thursday of August, this 29th day, has been a celebration. It has been three months since our 59th wedding anniversary on May 29th. We are that much closer to our 60th anniversary.

We are living the “happily ever after” that the naysayers of 1965 said would never happen. This evening we were trying to decide where to go to celebrate as we remembered exactly where we were celebrating 60 years ago -- the Mission Inn Restaurant in downtown Riverside. I can close my eyes and instantly be there.

It was the summer of '65. I was very pregnant; two and a half months later I gave birth to a baby boy on my 16th birthday. We were both dressed-up, I mean really dressed-up. We were 15 and 19 sitting in the most elegant restaurant I had ever been inside of, discovering we were very in love, celebrating three months of marriage.

Sonny & Cher were on the top of the song chart with "I've got You Babe" and we had each other. We have no idea where we got the money to have such an extravagant celebration. We had stopped at his parents' house so they could see us dressed-up. I was wearing an elegant maternity outfit my mother-in-law had purchased for me.

I suspect Mr. Fun's dad slipped him some money and possibly the suggestion of where to dine. The Maître d' greeted us as we walked through the restaurant entrance. We surely looked like children masquerading as adults.

Now looking over our shoulder from a distance of 60 years we recognize the supernatural protection our Heavenly Father provided during our wreckless years of youth; actually every day of our lives. We would not be at this moment, this milestone, if Jesus had not come to our ten year anniversay, but that's another chapter for another time. Now, just color us thankful!

From California’s Central Coast,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!
