Hanging Around The Churchyard

This is a young male common pheasant. The inquisitive lad was part of a gang, strutting their stuff at Saint Cosmas and Saint Damian church in Challock, Kent.

The church stands very much alone, well away from the village of Challock in the middle of farmland and woodland. The narrow lane you must take to get there is little more than a track, but was once the main road from Faversham to Ashford before history moved life away and left the church to its peace and quiet with wildlife for company. The village of Challock today is technically Challock Lees while the remote church actually stands almost alone in true Challock.
