Mabli the hen

A day of surprises! Mabli the hen has been missing for a few days. They normally all come into the henhouse at night so we thought she must have been taken by an eagle. We looked everywhere but no sign. Then just as we were about to give up looking Rowan found her hiding in the long grass!

Not only was she still alive, but she was sitting on a stash of 27 eggs…

This now makes sense as we’d noticed a drop off in the eggs which is unusual for this time of year. So it looks like some of them had created another safe space and Mabli got broody. Unfortunately she can’t have any chicks yet, but our new cockerel, Connieach, is almost ready to meet the ladies - in the meantime we can maybe get Mabli some fertilized eggs to keep her happy.
