Meh, not so much
Slept really badly and, as a consequence I think, was unable to get started at all today. Did part of my now reduced hours for the New Zealand job, then decided to head out and see AH at Westpointe. He looked much better – i.e., spruced up and freshly shaven, although he was having some issues with his belt – and so stayed for a brief 30-minute visit before he got summoned to lunch. I tried a different tactic with him this time, talking about his early days as a civil engineer, asking him to explain what he did and what his role was… he seemed to be able to do it quite easily – talking about the way roads were built in new subdivisions, etc. I suppose it is far enough in the past to not be affected by the dementia – at least, not yet – or, perhaps, it was a good day. The heartbreaking thing is that he doesn’t realise his son is dead: he was talking about various issues he had. Then he suddenly realised his wife had died and asked me to pray for her as I was leaving. Watching the tear drip down his face was one of the worst things I have had to put up with recently.
Anyway, drove home and was just in time to see Ottawacker Jr. head out to his friend Caelan’s on his bike. That was that until around 7.45. So, there you have it: in the space of a week, he has become completely independent; out on the buses, walking to the shops, and now cycling to his friend’s house on the other side of the “big road”. I’ll be completely bald by the time November comes.
Other than a run to Shoppers, that was that until dinnertime.
