Robots and Abaci

It may surprise some people that children are still taught how to use the abacus in Japanese schools. Arthur gave me a brief lesson this evening. I can now use it to read numbers up to ninety billion and down to eleven decimal places. Tomorrow he has promised to teach me how to add and subtract numbers across the tens columns. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
