Waiting and Watching

Today was supposed to be the start of laying deck floor boards. Lowes assured us we would be the first stop on the delivery schedule. Our BIL figured they would arrive around 9:30. He and hubby configured a pop up on the patio to provide shade during the measuring and cutting phase. We called them twins being dressed alike today. The guys were beside themselves, waiting and watching for the truck. My sister tried to find odd jobs to keep our BIL busy. Hubby installed the electronic meat thermometer app on my sister’s phone. He tried putting it on our BIL’s last night with no success. They were ready to throw it away but hubby promised to try again today. We are smoking a turkey breast for dinner and want to monitor its progress. After a slow start, it actually started working. The driver called to say they were on their way around 2:00. The guys drove down to an agreed upon point to meet the driver and fork lift operator to ensure they wouldn’t get lost in the hills. There was no cell reception there of course. When they had not arrived long after the expected time, hubby drove back here to see if they’d called. No such luck. The truck finally arrived here at 3:20 pm. Our outside temperature at that time was 94°F, today’s peak. The guys laid three boards and had to stop; it was simply too hot to work in the sun. They will try again this evening. I have puttered around, cleaned the kitchen after meals and taken care of Sugar. My sister also looked for ways to be productive. She discovered her drip hose that waters her plants when we are in Maryland, was clogged. That fix took quite awhile. We are all contemplating taking COVID tests. We want to visit the neighbor but just feel blah. Maybe tomorrow. Hope you are not experiencing any pollen/cold symptoms. Stay safe and healthy.
