Newcastle Downunder

Around the water hole

I bought this bowl at a roadside tourist shop coming into Arusha, Tanzania.  I have never regretted it either.  I am not sure of the woods of the animals on the rim and for all I know it might have been imported wood but I doubt it.  It does not have the big five as there is no buffalo but it does have two types of big cat and I do love big cat.  This has been focus stacked.

The bowl itself shows it's lovely grain.

The extra is of a tiny bird I bought in Costa Rica earlier this year.  It would be around 8 cm.   I have a collection of wooden birds and so this, the smallest, is the latest addition.   I can tell you it is made of Balsa wood by a Native tribe in Costa Rica purchased at a reputable shop in San Jose where the money goes back to the artists.  I love it.  The paint work is just so fine and delicate.  It is of a weaver bird, typical of the ones I saw down South on the Caribbean side.
