Alicante
Tuesday 30 July
This morning we drove about 30 minutes to the city of Alicante. It took us a while to work out where exactly we wanted to be and to find parking. We eventually found parking near the cruise ship terminal, and walked along the beautiful Esplanada de España, shown in my thumbnail photo, with its striking patterned paving. This took us to Postiguet Beach, where there are lifts up to the Castle of Santa Barbara. The castle is perched on top of Mount Benacantil at a height of 166 meters, and is one of Spains largest medieval fortresses, providing extensive views over Alicante's large bay. Given the heat, that was all we felt up to doing, before finding a beach to go for a cooling swim.
Dinner in the evening was again with the family, but this time out at a restaurant in Elche. We were a large party, and service was rather slow, so it was about 11.45 before we left the restaurant to walk back to the apartment! I’ve added a couple of extras of Elche by night.
