Falkirk Wheel

We drove a long way today from the Cairngorms to Chesterfield, about 360 miles (lots more kms).  We did a detour to see the Falkirk Wheel, which, in a nutshell, is the world's only rotating boat lift.

My Blip is from the other side of the canal opposite the base of the wheel, and I think it looks like the eye of a mythical creature, with two heads at least. My extra shows the connection to the top of the wheel and what it looks like as it turns.

If I did some research I could tell you how high it is and how much weight is moved. What I can tell you is the power used for each turn of the wheel is about the same as boiling eight kettles of water. Don't ask me how much water is in the kettle.

The other fascinating fact from our visit is you can stay there overnight in a motorhome for £15. So we may revisit on our journeys in the future.
