Coming in to land

C’s daughter swam the length of Ullswater with C and son as canoe support. I’m completely awestruck!

They started at Glenridding and I first managed to spot them from Glencoyne. I then headed round the other side and parked up on top of The Hause and walked round Hallin where I next caught up with them looking across from Kailpot. It was so rough, windy and chilly at that point, I couldn’t imagine it would be possible to complete. I had a brief, and pathetic by comparison, swim of unity in the lee of Kailpot and then quickly changed so I could watch as they rounded the point at Oldchuch and the Outward Bound Centre and the last leg of the lake. At last the sun came out. I completed the circuit of Hallin and then headed back round to Another Place and met up with C’s husband and daughter in law and baby and we watched them passing the yacht club. We all then reconvened and waited for them to come ashore at Pooley Bridge. 7.7 miles in 5.5 hours. What an achievement!
