The Kings Hall

A couple of weeks ago, Helle and I visited "Land Of Legendes" and saw the reconstructed King's Hall. It inspired us to also visit the original King's Hall - or what is left of it.

So we met this morning to train dogs and when we were done, we drove to Gammel Lejre to visit Lejre Museum and the hitoric sites that are surrounding it.

The area around Gammel Lejre is particularly known for the legends of the Scyldingas, the ancient mounds, the stone ships and of course the King's Hall.

We parked the cars at the museum and then we walked to the Stone Ships. They also have a reconstruction of the Stone Ships at Land Of Legends, but the one we saw today was built in the Viking Age. You can see it in the extra.

We had a picnic lunch before we went back to the cars and left the dogs to have a nap, whilst Helle and I visited the museum.

Odin from Lejre is one of the stars of this museum. It is a silver-figurine from the Viking Age and was found in Lejre. It depicts the norse god Odin sitting in his high seat, with his two ravens Hugin and Munin by his side. You can see it in the extra.

When we came back out, we took the dogs out again and went to see the King's Hall. The King's Hall was from about 800 AD and must have been an impressive building - 60 meters long.
There are pictures of the reconstructed King's Hall from Land Of Legends in the extra at this blip.
What remains of the King's Hall today is just a small rise in the grass. But you can still imagine how large and impressive a building it was and you can see where other smaller halls have been placed in the field around it.

The main picture in the blip is Helle and the dogs in the King's Hall.

See you tomorrow
