Unusual…..!!!

In the morning we walked Bonnie in Lough Key Forest Park…very, very wet so she was totally mucky and had to be washed when we got back…that was ‘fun’…!!
Then when she was settled we spent the afternoon visiting a typical Irish village called Elphin Co. Roscommon……a place steeped in all kinds of interesting history…the birth place of both Percy fFrench and Oliver Goldsmith…both admirably commemorated..

A beautiful church and Grotto to the BVM….the history of the churches and monasteries there going back to the time of St. Patrick…
I just love these historical sites..and you really can’t go very far in any county in Ireland without seeing them..!
We had coffee (and custard cream biscuits)…in the local pub ..a lovely building with a roaring turf fire..!! Yes it may have been August 22nd but it certainly wasn’t summer…!!!
Then on to visit a most unusual sight just outside the village on the aptly named Windmill Road….the only one of its kind in Ireland (surviving and restored) anyway….what an amazing sight…you can see from my photo how it worked….a simple cartwheel mechanism that revolved and turned it to face the wind !!
And then our delicious dinner in ‘My Kitchen’….Sham Hanifa is the chef/owner….a wonderful Malaysian guy who has made his home in Ireland and has been voted the best restaurants in Connaught…..so I Highly Recommend a visit if you’re ever in this ‘neck of the woods’…!
We’ve had a fabulous 3 days ‘dog sitting’ Bonnie…
Home tomorrow..!
Extras…including a new ‘use’ for my dressing gown..!
