Patriothall

Very windy as I walked West to St Mary's for the lunchtime recital

Neil Mantle and Gillian Gray, horn and piano, playing
Sonata In F Major........L. Van Beethoven (1770-1827])
Nocturno...                   F. Strauss (1822-1905)
Scherzo.......                 C. Wittell (1910-1988) from Horn Sonata
Andante Sostenuto... R. Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) from Horn Sonata
Morceau De Concert. C. Saint -Saens (1835-1921)

Neil Mantle did good introductions. The Vaughan Williams piece was recovered from a British Library archive in 2017, as a fair copied horn part, and sketches of the piano accompaniment. Excellent playing of very pleasant music.

Back across town, being blown to the East. We got the bike tools together and successfully changed the coin battery in the TCU display on the ebike. Getting the coin battery out of its compartment was what my mother called 'a right fiddle' ; it took two of us and two very fine jewelers screwdrivers as well as strategically placed tape to hold other things in place; no tweezers possible, despite the instructions. It all went back together, and the bike turned on without warning lights,  so a success was declared.

Out to look at the Clay 2024 exhibition at the Ceramics gallery in Stockbridge; as last year, some good things but not quite right for our space. Then to Patriothall to see the artists exhibition there; some attractive pieces including one representing the corner of Nelson and Northumberland Street. Open Studios are this weekend.

Blip is the workers housing, completed 1860, built by the Co-op, who may well still own it; there's a Co-op store on the street in front of this. Architect John Starforth .   We stopped in at Mellis for cheese then went back through the town.
