New Pals

We went over to Fife Zoo this morning for a 'Lemur Encounter'. The zoo is rather small and still getting established but the Lemurs were brilliant. They have a dozen, all males, born and raised at a park in Yorkshire. They were getting to the age when they might start to disrupt the group down there and so transferred to the Fife Zoo a few years ago. It was during the Covid restrictions which wasn't great for the Zoo but gave the Lemurs plenty of time to settle in. They get fed a variety of vegetables and today we were handing out Sweet Potato chunks. L soon had two and then three and four of them clambering over her, looking for the food she was holding. On the other hand there was just one on my shoulder, the up-and-coming group leader whose status in the group seemed to prevent any of the others getting near. He calmly stayed there and slowly ate the handful of food I was holding with only a brief approach (swiftly rebuffed) from the former head of the group. Amazing to see them so close. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect and how close they might approach us but it certainly exceeded my expectations and L thoroughly enjoyed it!
