Pillar Box Red
I came across a man who was painting our local pillar box. He had a bucket of red paint and a smaller one of black paint sitting by his feet.
“Is this what you do?” I asked. He confirmed that indeed, this was his job.
"A bit like painting the Forth Bridge,” I ventured. He ignored my remark and said:
“You can post letters to the whole world from here, as far afield as Dingwall, Alness and the Bahamas.” What a service. And we all take it for granted. (I’m sending a postcard of Scottie dogs to the Bahamas, just to check that he’s right.) He declined to be photographed for this journal.
