Kids at a Concert
The Portland Wind Symphony had a concert in Cathedral Park this evening. It was a great time for all, but especially for the kids.
Before they began “The 1812 Overture,” the conductor said she’d asked the City about using real canons, but they turned her down, so she cleverly offered small paper bags to anyone to come up front and help out with the music. It was a fine success - the new percussionists, about 50 of all ages, produced well-timed, pleasing pops that were just loud and plentiful enough; really a nice sound in the cooling evening. Who needs bombs when you can have music.
