Feorlean

A carpet of heather

With the official start of autumn less than two weeks away there are some tell tale signs of being on that cusp.

One is the occasional discolouration that can be seen on some stretches of bracken.

Another is the emergence of patches of purple Scotch heather (also known by a variety of other names including bell heather , Cornish heath and ling heather) ) on the hills , which in some places are lying like carpets , draped over rock, like this one just off the road to Colintraive.
