The first taste of French signage en route.

You technically will be in France before leaving Folkestone on the Eurotunnel as you go through French customs at the Folkestone end.

It's all very well organised and sign posted as opposed to the catastrophic shambles that is the French side when you are coming back. But more about that later.

If you watched that documentary recently on TV about the Arabic boy racers who come to London each summer there was a load of them getting on the chunnel train too with assorted Lambos and Ferraris.

We actually started our journey on Friday as we drove down to Folkestone and stayed over in a Premier Inn a brief few miles along from the tunnel.

At the other end (the French end) you just drive off having already gone through customs and within yards you are on a dual carriageway on on your way.

I had been warned about the quick exit so was ready for it however not for the lunatics who tailgate you as you get your feel for the wrong side of the road and km/h etc. despite you driving at or below the speed limit.

This was a taste of things to come as for the next week I encountered French motorists who drove like maniacs in a sometimes bizarre system.
