Balladeer

Back home mid-morning from the overnighter at work and I left the house pretty much straight away for a right full day of it.

An all-day breakfast in a heaving Snax set me up nicely for a very pleasant time of it checking out the visual arts programme at Summerhall. I was drawn to it initially by the photographs of the Washington DC hardcore scene from the late seventies but there was plenty more to like, and the labels for the exhibits in the Sam Kissajukian show made me chuckle several times.

A quick look into Talbot Rice for the El Anatsui exhibition (it looked fantastic, I'll definitely be back when I have more time) en route to the Methodist Hall in Tollcross for an event at the film festival - in conversation with Alex Garland and Andrew Macdonald. Very entertaining it was too, particularly Alex. I reckon he'd be pretty good company in the pub, not short of an opinion for sure.

The evening's cultural entertainment was provided by Cat Power at The Playhouse, with her recreation of Bob Dylan's famous 'Royal Albert Hall' concert from 1966. I dunno if it was just me but for the first half hour I couldn't decide whether she was putting an interesting new slant on some old classics or...absolutely f**king murdering them. I did get into it but, even so, I took some convincing!
