Lovely Liskeard
Featuring the Cornish Pudding Company, which I regret not having enough time to investigate. I stood here liking the shapes and the plants. In the way us blippers do. A local person came up and asked me why I was taking a photo, and I said I thought it was a beautiful place. He was so pleased, and then chatted for a while about how much he loves his home town.
I had set off with J from his home at 10.30 - we were meeting a friend of his in Starbucks at the A30 services about half an hour east. A bit like a prisoner swap, except I didn’t get one back. S is a physio - they can be quite severe can’t they - she was taking him climbing (indoor wall). Well, he’s 84 and had a hip replacement about 6 months ago.
Anyhow, on I went to Liskeard, had lunch with my good friend D who is also my son’s dad. Very good to talk over current issues. In the wonderful library, which is also a cafe, and really the nicest place to go:) Then to the British Heart Foundation charity shop, where G, who used to be the manager of ‘my’ oxfam shop in Bristol, now works. She’s loving being in Cornwall (her partner is Cornish) but the shop is so different from the one in (mainly) rich posh Clifton in Bristol. We had a good catch up, and I bought a book, of course. It was lovely to see her.
Then to drive home, not enjoyable, a lot of hold ups, but at least no crashes. Tired when I got back, all I could manage was unpacking, feeding and cuddling Portia ( not actually in that order) and making something to eat.
Just a final thought - I really take my hat off to people who care for someone with dementia day after day, year after year. I was exhausted after 3.5 days. And my patience was exhausted too. His wife C messaged several times saying she was having a good time seeing friends, playing golf, and reading books. I had taken a book with me, but didn’t even open it:) Must do it again soon.
