Essex Wildlife Trust
We've spent a lovely afternoon at the Abberton Reservoir, near Colchester. (A wetland site of international importance for wildfowl. Up to 40,000 ducks, swans and geese visit each year. Excellent bird watching) After our picnic we walked the trails, sat in two hides and saw a few wading birds, lots of Dragonflies and Damsels. The trails were bounded on both sides by wild flower planting which went on for miles. Was disappointed not to see more Bees and Butterflies on the wild flowers as I only saw a few little Meadow Browns. Plenty of berries about, red and black of quite a few varieties and lots of plump blue Sloes.
Back to 'Matilda' for a quick change and ready to be picked up by Grandson A who will take us to his brother's house for a curry night. Not a takeaway but all home cooked by the lovely J & E. Looking forward to another family gathering.
