Red Raspberry Slime Mould

Tubifera ferruginosa
First time I have ever seen this weird life form. Neither a plant nor an animal, without a brain and yet capable not only of (slow) movement but apparently quite capable of navigating its way to is food source. I am informed that having done so it can "remember" the way and repeat the feat in experimental conditions.

If you keep your eyes open you can learn something every day. That's two new things I have seen this week. The Aurora was the other.
