Denbigh and Flint County Show - a day to remember

THURSDAY

Today was the Denbigh and Flint County Show, just a few miles away at the Ty Newydd Estate. We had taken our competition exhibits down last night, but we had some last-minute adjustments to make to one of the entries, so we had to be there early this morning before the marquees were closed for judging at 9:00 am.

Prue’s efforts really paid off—she won first prizes for both her Welsh Cakes and Sloe Gin and took third place for her fruit scones. A “Twelve Days of Christmas” embroidery display that Prue and Harriet submitted together also won first prize in the needlework section (see yesterday's blip).

We were lucky that the forecast rain held off until 4:30 pm, giving us a mostly dry day to enjoy the show. We had VIP tickets, so we enjoyed a prime view of everything in the main arena, along with a drinks reception and some posh dining. Even after over seven hours at the show, there was still so much we didn’t get to see!

The day ended with a grand parade featuring all the winning horses, cattle, and even a sheep and a pig on trailers, parading around the main ring.

I headed over to Rhyl at 6:00 pm for an away bowls match against East Parade and, by the time I went on to play, the skies had cleared and the late evening sun was shining. I started the game strong but lost momentum, finishing with a disappointing 11-21—my worst result of the season so far.

A couple more in the extras.
