Some Like It Hot

Today was a continuation of yesterday's hot and humid conditions and yet by the evening we had somehow managed to leave ourselves without any liquid refreshment other than tap water so we had to make a last minute dash up to our local M&S for some thirst quenching supplies before it closed for the day.
Even on such occasions I always grab my camera before heading out in the hope of garnering an eleventh hour blip image. This shot was grabbed on the way back from our drinks based excursion and is a sign helping to advertise a promotional sale of chilli pepper plants outside our neighbourhood Homebase.
It's a representational illustration of the Scoville Heat Sacle, which is a measurement of the pungency (spiciness or "heat") of chilli peppers and other substances recorded in Scoville heat units (SHU). It is based on the concentration of capsaicinoids, among which capsaicin is the predominant component.
The scale is named after its creator, American pharmacist Wilbur Scoville, whose 1912 method is known as the Scoville organoleptic test - with it being a subjective assessment derived from capsaicinoid sensitivity by people experienced with eating hot chillies.
My favourite names shown on the sign have to be Hungarian Hot Wax, Hot Shakira and the frankly very worryingly monikered Carolina Reaper!
