Scapa Distillery and Beach
I spent the day in Kirkwall; car in for service and a morning meeting. A cruise liner spewed out 4.5k folk into the town. Kirkwall has a population of 10k. It’s the equivalent of adding 3.95 million to the population of London, for the day. However, in London, you don’t get to see Scara Brae.
I met Dave in Albert Street, by coincidence outside the Orkney Brewery shop. As an aside he told me Gill really like drinking ‘Dark Island’ stout. However he was more agog / concerned about the ‘tidal wave of inhumanity’ – his words. Talk about a tourist honeypot. The lid’s off and the bees are working overtime. Luckily Dave could walk home and retreated to les environs. I made my escape by heading into the beer shop. I asked if they had any ‘Dragonhead’ stout. The young man indicated that a brew had just been made but it was away sooth for bottling. Although not yellow, I am curious. I asked if it is bottled in Glasgow. I hope you are all sitting down. The answer is Manchester. Imagine this in Viking times.
Thorfinn the Incorrigible: ‘I’ll tell you whit bueys, the ale’s ready – how aboot we send it doon tae Manchester?’
Rognvald the Recidivist: ‘But it hasn’t been built yet.’
I walked past Highland Park to get a view of Scapa. But who wouldn’t ?
