This is the day

Darby and Joan

As of today we are the only members of our immediate family who are currently in this country. And so, apart from a requirement to go and feed Watson the cat twice a day for ten days, Smithers and I are free to do as we please.

This afternoon Smithers has been reading an Anthony Horowitz book, which he’s enjoying enormously, and I’ve started on some dressmaking. So far it’s just been a question of taking in a skirt that I made a couple of years ago but which was now sliding down onto the hips (because I lost weight when Smithers was so ill last year) but I’m really pleased with how well it now fits. I also overlocked the seams of the pockets which I had omitted to do when I first made it, which is why my overlocker features as today’s blip.

My skirt alteration has given me the confidence at last to try and make a dress toile that I can use as a standard pattern that fits me. Once the toile is done I should be able to run up a dress whenever I get the urge. I have a stash of fabrics awaiting my attention, and all I need now is to be brave.
