Vardre Deganwy

TUESDAY

By 9:00 am, I was showered, dressed, had breakfast, and out the door for a 25-mile drive to Vardre Deganwy for today’s bowls match, which was an unusual morning fixture.

The green there is notoriously challenging, with short grass and a surface as hard as concrete. This made it difficult to control the bowls, which required minimal force and, as is normal for fast greens, took ages to come to a stop. The green also had several irregular undulations, causing the bowls to veer off unpredictably. It was the crazy golf equivalent of bowls!

Each team had five winners, but we narrowly lost the aggregate by just four points, 168 to 172, resulting in a 5–7 loss in the match.

I won my own game 21-8.
