Greenfinches ( Chloris chloris )
Every so often when the required conditions come together I have a go at birds in flight. The ideal conditions are, the feeder half full, a good number of one species and good light. Well two of the conditions were correct, pity about the light.
Greenfinches are for me the ideal species for this as they are cantankerous and fight among themselves. Currently we have a group of 5 visiting the feeders, so plenty of action. My technique is to set the shutter as fast as I can with the light conditions, set the camera to "burst" and fire as I see a bird approaching the feeder when the perches are full. Many shots are useless but that is the joy of digital photography each shot doesn't cost you money. This isn't a technique I would have dreamed of using in the days of film.
