Southampton

When our Devon holiday start and end day is Saturday we tend to break the journey down and up because of traffic issues on the M5. We headed out of Devon on the A30 and A35 - got stuck in a little bottleneck but generally OK trip to Southampton. I've only visited twice before, to run GIS courses for ESRI/ GA. Checked in and parked. Wandered into town and had a mooch and some lunch. Met up with my son and went round the 'Titanic' museum exhibit exploring the local people who worked on the ship, many of them taking work because of a miner's strike at the time. A map showed where they all lived, and interesting pattern - display of them all. Sat in the Olympics fan zone and watched the madison cycling event in the sun with a beer - very pleasant. After a trip to the marina we had a very nice turkish meal at the Ottoman Empire restaurant. Down to the marina late on to meet my son who had been watching a late movie. An interesting day in the city.
