Japanese Anemone
Today I had to take my Mother to the dental hygienist. We came back to our house for tea, afterwards. I showed her a couple of photo albums that I had found at her sister's apartment . My aunt had compiled them fairly recently but they contain some very old family photos (a few over a hundred years old ). My Mother became very animated when she saw them, and could tell me who many of the subjects were without needing to read the captions. I'm so glad to have found something "new" of real interest to her, and to me, rather than have her incessantly retelling a few of her favourite stories "on a loop"! We can resume our study and discussion of these photos on future occasions.
This evening we attended a Cafe Scientifique meeting about a project to restore Oyster beds in the Solent. It is sad that over- fishing has all but eliminated the wild oysters, and those that remain aren't safe to be eaten due to pollution from sewage outfalls and run-off. Its an interesting project but will take ages to come to fruition!
A late- summer flowering plant coming into bloom in our garden is the Japanese Anemone. The plant does rather spread itself around, but the flowers look pretty right now!
