I drove all night
A fruitful work day in a relaxed outdoor venue. We had a meeting of various partner organisations all working in the same landscape, and it was good for both relationship-building and exchanging technical ideas. Time well spent.
The return to Dar es Salaam posed more problems. European summer holidaymakers equate to limited availability of air tickets for domestic flights that go near popular safari destinations. I had critical plans the following day (Michelle arriving for a break together in Zanzibar) so I refused to play along when we were offered standby air tickets two days later. Instead we agreed to return by road. It takes six hours, they said.
It actually took twelve hours and we drove through the night to arrive in Dar es Salaam at 4.30am. Essence of Worship was the only soundtrack the driver was interested in throughout. At least I haven’t done the road journey before between Arusha and Dar es Salaam, so despite the fatigue let’s be grateful for new experiences.
