Diary of an Edinburgher

The Scent of Copenhagen

Another exciting day, starting with a man appearing at our fourth floor (with no lift) kitchen window as we were having breakfast - fortunately not still in our jammies at 11 am.

We had been told they were coming this week to measure the windows, and we spotted a cherry picker in the street, so it was not the heart attack material it might have been!

This block of flats, and they are spacious - apart from small bathrooms/shower rooms- are owned by someone who is responsible for the building. The flats and everything inside are bought by the tenants, and so they are much cheaper to buy, but they pay a 'factoring' fee which includes heating, lighting and building upkeep. I think it's quite a common arrangement here.

Off into town and hopped on the ferry (one ticket for bus and ferry) and hopped off in the north of the city, where we wandered through the streets and came to the King's Gardens, which are immense, and lots of it laid out in formal rose gardens with box hedges. And there is a most spectacular palace!

I did note that the little hearts on the palace pencil sentry boxes are indeed, peep holes. Just in case they spot someone standing in the wrong place when they're in out of the rain.

On through town, which was absolutely hoachin'. I stopped to watch these young folk doing their graffiti on more of the new Metro hoardings. I went down to talk to them and the smiling young man is called Andreas. He told me that they are paid to do the art work for the Metro. Not much, but enough for the spray cans. The artist, Rasmus, standing on the wall, is doing this cartoon series all over the city. It's called, 'The Scent of Copenhagen'. He's very talented! Andreas asked where I was from. Scotland. He said that he'd heard that Dublin is very beautiful. I agreed.

We had a wee jaunt around a few unfamiliar suburbs, thanks to getting on the wrong bus. But no worries - the ticket lasts an hour, just hop on the next bus back and start again. The public transport here is excellent.

Popped into Central Station and got our ticket for a very exciting day tomorrow! Very very exciting!
