21.7C at midnight and they say a heatwave is coming from tomorrow for the next week. Forecast to rise to 37C here and there is talk of the dreaded ‘Afa ’ - the stultifying humidity on top of the stultifying hea. No one really ‘gets used’ to this. You just try and work out ways of making it less bad- like getting up at 5:30 to at least enjoy one hour of sunless, relatively cool living. In Italy it was mainly just on this side of bearable in the summer. That seems to have gone now forever, notwithstanding AdairTurner’s technocratic optimism that climate change can be held at a 1.8-1.9C rise in the FT https://on.ft.com/46CsKWo. It’s worth a read though.
