Bladnoch Viaduct (Remains of)

…was the only major architectural project of the branch line from Glasgow to the Isle of Whithorn, built in 1875, closed in 1965. (The main picture is a merged diptych, montaged in the geographically correct direction.)

The adjacent village of Bladnoch houses the southernmost Scottish whisky distillery, destination of today’s family tour. A friendly German-bread member of staff gave us a seminar on maturation methods. (It helped their sales numbers up.)

Afterwards we browsed two of the famous Wigtown antiquarian bookshops, and we had fish and chips on our way back, at Newton Stuart.
