The Foothills

These are the Santa Ana Mountains with Saddleback mountains, the highest peak is Santiago Peak, 5689 feet. 
The parking lot to the trail is about 45 minutes from our cities here.
They look really big up close when I am driving and I have to find a good spot to take a close up photo next time. We usually do that when there is snow on top of the mountain once or  twice in the winter.
