Transience
The list for today read printing, eggs, £50, gammon, cake.
I took a picture inside the butcher shop as he cut my gammon steaks and we spoke about traffic queuing outside. The picture was of the brass weights that sit behind the counter and have been replaced by digital scales.
As I left the queue had shifted and I observed the properties opposite. #8 remains empty following a brief period of occupation by Dough and Co pizza. It was opened in April 23 but wasn't getting great reviews. A pretty damning report and 1* food hygiene rating in the latter part of the year was followed by voluntary liquidation in April 24. It hasn't had a good track record for restaurant use. I never did visit.
#10 & #12 look to be doing OK. I've not been in the taproom for a while. Perhaps that should be addressed.
#14 has an announcement of a 1 September 'grand opening' , #14a an 'we're moving' one and #16 was, not unusually, closed.
The car themed seats in the hairdresser always amuse me but it rarely looks busy and it's hard to imagine how a seemingly small trickle of custom will cover increasing rent and other bills.
With my list ticked off it was back to the office for the afternoon and then home for a quickly prepared dinner, an online catch-up with my Springboard ladies and then highlights from the Olympics
