2024 Tuesday — Christmas Trees

I walked into Hobby Lobby in San Luis Obispo this afternoon and this display of Christmas trees confronted me. On August 6 this just seemed wrong. I do realize some people start their holiday decorating in September. I see those people’s efforts usually in Instagram. The beauty of their decorating motivates me and if I’m successful I’ve completed my Christmas decorating by December 24th.

The truth is my Christmas decorating begins the day after Thanksgiving. It is like a complete season change in our house from autumn/harvest to the winter holiday and celebration of the birth of Christ. Possibly my favorite holiday is Thanksgiving and that’s because it is not instigated by the world of florists, greeting card makers, or chocolate candies.

But a forest of Christmas trees at the entrance to the store was just out of season during this summer month of August.
