Snail on a Hi-Wire

I noticed this little snail 'balancing' on our clothes line.  
Why?  - there's no food up there.  How did it get 8ft up a wall and 4ft along the line?
I think it was asleep after its exertions because it hasn't moved all afternoon :-)
