Ocean Colour Scene

O.K this may not actually be spectacular ocean waves crashing towards a beautiful Californian shoreline but surely some cellophane and an old basmati rice packet utilised for an emergency blip are a pretty close representation! :-) So I won't make my blip about the oceanic colour palette but about the band who's name I stole for today's title.
Ocean Colour Scene are an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1989. They have had five top 10 albums including a number one in 1997 and also achieved seventeen top 40 singles and six top 10 singles to date.
Their early career was not quite as auspicious  - their first single, "Sway', was released in September 1990 during the indie era. When their original record label was swallowed up by a larger record company their eponymous debut album was remixed, against the band's wishes, to fit in with the baggy/indie-dance musical trend of the time. It was largely deemed a failure and led to the band being in dispute with their label forcing them back on to unemployment benefits and with no outlet to record or release any new music.
The turnaround began in 1993 when Paul Weller invited the band to support him on some live dates of his tour. On the back of these performances Weller invited guitarist Steve Craddock to play on one of his singles, and vocalist Simon Fowler to sing on what was to become Weller's iconic album Wild Wood. Craddock was then asked to play live with Weller on his tour and the money he earned allowed the band to keep paying rent for a studio.
The band then recorded a demo which was distributed to various record companies and, as luck would have it, also heard by Noel Gallagher who invited the band to play with Oasis in their 1995 tour just as the Britpop scene started to explode and their music would go on to become nationally and internationally known.
They continue to perform and in 2023 they released a career-spanning box set entitled "Yesterday - 1992 - 2018" which contained all their studio albums and 5 bonus CD's, totalling a whopping 230 tracks. I've just decided to tag one track, The Day We Caught The Train, below as I didn't want to break the internet! The video is delightfully of its time with plenty of bucket hats on view!
