Coffee
After breakfast, we decided to take the children to the splash park as it was such a warm day. They headed off with them while PY and I packed our things and put them in the back of the car. Dad found a good parking spot right next to the park.
We offered to get coffee for everybody and headed to stand in the queue by the coffee shop. The day was getting warmer, and PY wanted an iced coffee. In front of us, a couple bought two iced drinks, and I heard the barista say that was the last of the ice. How many people went without a cold drink today because of a rush on iced beverages?
We said goodbye to the others, who would return to Edinburgh after splashing. We went to a nearby restaurant for lunch. I went for the spinach & ricotta ravioli. We had a lovely couple of hours with Mum and Dad before catching the train back.
At Shrewsbury, platforms 4A and 4B are at either end of the same platform. We were told to wait in one part, but the train pulled up at the other end. There was a scramble as people headed down to meet their train. There was also some confusion as another train was due to pull up and depart on the other bit of the platform before we left. We managed to get a seat on what became a busy Birmingham-bound service.
A family sitting near us was convinced their interchange time at New Street was just four minutes, so we were surprised to see them board our London-bound train, which had a nice departure time, fifteen minutes after we'd arrived. Again, it was another service that got quite busy. I was glad we'd booked seats.
We were home just after 7pm, which meant a nice, leisurely evening before we started preparing overnight oats for the start of the working week
