Look Out

The Final Frontier

My original intention for this morning was scuppered, so I decided on a Plan B.

I headed to Jodrell Bank. It’s only a half hour drive, but I’ve not been for a few years, and the site has seen some significant changes.

It’s day two of the Royal Society’s “Summer exhibits on tour”, aimed at curious young minds. I must have a curious old(er) mind, I enjoyed chats on the Darwin Tree of Life project (sequencing the genomes of 70.000 species), Bacteriophage research, and the development of the National Rehabilitation Centre at Loughborough.

I then walked onto and into the First Light Pavilion, which is new to me. The same diameter as the dish of the radio telescope (76 metres), hidden under a domed green roof, and fascinating inside (an external photo in extras).
